Design and Portability
The chassis uses plastic panels but still feels solid in normal use, with no obvious flex or creaking. The ThinkPad design remains simple and work-focused, with a matte black finish and minimal branding. At 1.8 kg, it is portable enough for daily commuting and business trips. The lid hinges are stable, though opening the laptop can require two hands.
Display, Audio, and Webcam
The 15.6-inch Full HD IPS panel has a matte surface and reaches around 350 nits brightness, which is suitable for indoor work. Contrast is strong at about 1700:1, while color coverage (around 60% sRGB and 40% AdobeRGB) is limited for professional color-critical editing. The panel does not use PWM, which helps during long work sessions. The dual 2 W speakers are adequate for calls and casual media, and the 720p webcam is functional but basic for a business class device.
Keyboard and Input
The keyboard follows the classic ThinkPad approach with a comfortable key feel, clear feedback, and a two-level backlight. Frequently used keys are large enough for fast typing, and the numeric keypad is useful for office data entry. The TrackPoint is available for users who prefer it, while the touchpad is responsive and includes physical click buttons. A nearby fingerprint scanner supports quick and secure sign-in.
Performance for Daily Work
With the Core i7-1165G7 and Intel Iris Xe Graphics, this model handles office applications, web workloads, video streaming, and light graphics tasks without issue. The 16 GB RAM and 512 GB SSD provide a practical setup for business multitasking. Casual gaming at low or medium settings is possible, but this is primarily a productivity machine.
Connectivity, Battery, and Thermals
Port selection is a major strength: dual Thunderbolt 4, dual USB 3.2, HDMI, RJ-45, dock connector, microSD, smart card support, and a headset jack cover most business scenarios without many adapters. Wireless options include Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, and 4G LTE for work on the move. The 57 Wh battery delivers roughly 7.5 to 8 hours of web use at moderate brightness. Under load, the hottest zone is near the rear underside (around 50-55C), while the palm rest stays cooler. Fan noise remains moderate, reaching about 38 dB under heavier use.
Verdict
The ThinkPad T15 Gen 2 is a practical business laptop with strong connectivity, good typing comfort, and balanced everyday performance. Its main compromises are average webcam quality and limited color gamut for creative work. For office users who value ports, LTE support, and security features, it is a dependable work-focused choice.
